Removing Mold Spots from a Duvet Cover: Here are specific methods and steps:
1. General Mold Removal Methods (suitable for most common fabrics, like cotton and synthetics)
1) Soaking in Rice Water (good for absorbent fabrics like cotton)
- Method: Soak the moldy duvet cover in rice water overnight, then wash it with laundry detergent as usual. Rice water can effectively remove light mold spots.
2) Alcohol Wipe Method (for small, light mold spots)
- Method: First, brush the moldy area with clean water or a soft brush, then spray or wipe with 75% alcohol (or white liquor). Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with clean water.
3) Hot Soapy Water Scrubbing (for fabrics like synthetics that are easy to clean)
- Method: Scrub the moldy area repeatedly with hot concentrated soapy water, then rinse with warm water.
4) Ammonia and Detergent Wipe (for stubborn mold spots)
- Method: Mix 5% ammonia solution with laundry detergent in a 1:1 ratio (about 10ml each), dip a cotton swab in the mixture and rub the moldy area repeatedly. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then scrub with your hands. Note: Ammonia has a slight smell, so it's recommended to wear a mask when using it.
5) Hydrogen Peroxide and Dish Soap Soak (for large or severe mold spots)
- Method: Pour 100ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide into a basin, add 5 pumps of dish soap, and then add hot water (about 50°C) to soak the moldy duvet cover for 30 minutes. After the mold dissolves, add dish soap and scrub.
6) 84 Disinfectant Spot Treatment (for white or localized dark mold spots)
- Method: Dilute 84 disinfectant with boiling water at a 1:100 ratio and soak just the affected spot for 2 minutes (for colored duvet covers, soak only a few seconds to prevent bleaching), then scrub by hand while wearing gloves.
